When I was telling some family members that I had made my first podcast, my techie brother-in-law said that he thought there was too much information out there that wasn't worthwhile and too many podcasts that had nothing to say. I was able to respond, "Put yourself in your 12-year-old shoes. Would you rather have written a book report, or have created a podcast about the book you read?"
We had a good conversation about how to use technology to motivate kids and still have expectations for quality. His comment that making a podcast is too easy to do without thinking about content rang true. I love that we used a rubric in class and would expect my students to plan out their podcasts to a certain degree before recording them.
Thanks for the new tool!
