I wish we could just afford to go the one laptop per student route! The IT department is proposing to add 15 computers to the media center, and I'm so mad I could spit tacks. I already have 34 machines and 17 tables in the center of the room. I often have two classes in here simultaneously working on different projects (plus study hall kids, special ed kids, and miscellaneous people who need help, information, supplies, etc.) Do they really think that another 15 computers (for a grand total of 49!) will improve student work?
No. This is a question of convenience (theirs, not mine). Apparently, I have more wires running around my room than other spaces have. Grrr! I probably shouldn't care so much, since I won't even be here next year. But I just don't like this plan at all.
I can only envision the days when we bring 120 sixth graders in here for a group presentation . . . Maybe I should just get rid of all the books so we can just have bodies and computers.
