Thing #4 - Public Library

I love the public library! Just today, I searched for a book for one of the reading teachers to use in her class. It's a picture book, but none of the District 112 libraries had it. So then I checked Scott County, Carver County, and Hennepin County. No luck there, either. Then it was on to MNLink Gateway, where I almost always hit paydirt and it's just a question of how long it takes to get it in my hands. Zowie! If it's not in any of those, then I go to Amazon and buy a copy.

When I stopped at the Jordan branch of the Scott County library today, I paid for my overdue fines (on a DVD . . . that I forgot about). Next to the checkout counter was a bin for donations so they can buy more materials. How very sad! I commented that it would help if the county actually let the library keep their overdue fine collections instead of having to turn them in to the general fund. The librarian agreed and said that the library budget was a teeny tiny part of the overall county budget. I think it's time to write to the county commissioners!

I am such a library geek that I have my card # memorized - all 14 digits! I use my card primarily in the three counties listed, though I've also activated it in the Becker County system, since I use it when we go up to our lake place for long stretches. Hooray for our public libraries!
