About time I started doing the readings, huh? I finally made a shortcut to the MILI blog so that I head there more often. Since others have referenced the assigned articles and I hate to be left out, reading & responding to these is my next blog goal!
Lippincott's article isn't new to me - my Professional Development Community has been talking about this for the past year and a half. Kids need to be taught to use thinking skills and ethical use of information along with the actual technology tools themselves. I find it interesting that my son who's a junior in engineering at the U of M has not started a blog (he never did like writing much), but has a LOT of wiki pages with the electric circuitry he's working on for the solar car project.
Right now, I'm interacting with a lot of middle schoolers who want to create videos because it's so fun. Some of them understand the storytelling behind creating videos and others just want to run around taping stuff. Sometimes this teaching gig feels like a day in Sisyphus's shoes! Just keep pushing that boulder up the hill . . .
